Each fall, the Teaching Commons facilitates an orientation for all Teaching Assistants consisting of online modules, events, workshops, and departmental visits.
Departmental visits
The Teaching Commons would be grateful to visit your department and give a 5-10 minute presentation on what we offer to support graduate students and teaching assistants.
Orientation events
We offer a variety of events for teaching assistants and international teaching assistants. This orientation support includes drop-in Q&A sessions, orientation sessions, and professional development workshops.
Online modules
We have collected a variety of videos, online activities, and resources from across York University to support the transition to teaching at York. You will need a Passport York Login to access these modules.
Workshops
To support you throughout the year, we offer workshops on a variety of topics. This includes teaching in a lab, designing a tutorial, marking and grading, managing conflict, active learning, and supporting students in a variety of ways.
