Teaching Assistant Certificate in Teaching (TACT)

This free EDC (Educational Developers Caucus) accredited 1-semester course is for teaching assistants at York University to learn more about teaching in post-secondary education. It comprises six 1.5-hour synchronous sessions on Zoom plus additional online modules on eClass.

You MUST have at least ONE term experience as a TA to be eligible to take this course. Preferential access will be given to those who have completed the ‘Record of Completion’ Certificate.

The focus of this course is teaching and supporting learning in post-secondary education. During the course you will reflect on your experiences, engage in multi-disciplinary discussions about teaching, and learn from one another. The assessments for the course are the highlights and include a teaching reflective video, designing and teaching a 10-minute lesson with peer feedback, and developing your teaching dossier.

By the end of the course participants will

  • Use a variety of appropriate approaches to enable learning
  • Use a variety of methods for evaluating their role in supporting learning
  • Plan for their initial and continuing professional development
  • Undertake appropriate development activities
  • Review their development and their practice and the relations between them
