Teaching Assistant Certificate in Teaching (TACT)

This free certificate is for graduate students at York University who are interested to learn more about teaching in post-secondary education. It will consist of two courses, each requiring approximately 20 hours of your time, for a total time commitment of 40 hours for the certificate throughout your graduate studies.

One course, "How do you know learning happens?" is available Fall 2022, and another course will be available in Winter 2023. You may take the courses in any order, and anytime they are offered throughout your graduate studies.

The course is designed to bring together graduate students who are interested in teaching and learning, to explore, dialogue, and reflect on teaching and learning in higher education. We hope that you can use this time and information to explore your own teaching identity and support your peers in doing the same. We will discuss different learning theories, teaching practices, and evidence for effective teaching and learning. Topics will include Universal Design for Learning, Equity, Diversity, Decolonization, Inclusion and Accessibility (EDDIA), and Learning Science.

We hope at the end of this course you will have gathered lots of ideas to explore and contribute to your teaching philosophy.

The course will consist of five 2-hour sessions and an online component between sessions.

We will offer the course both in-person (in DB 1014*) and virtually (via Zoom).
