Project 116

Challenge Question

How can we help better simulate the signal environments that renewable energy systems work in, to help design them to be less susceptible to failure or to working in unintended ways?

Partner: KPM Power Inc

Project Summary

ycn dots

Noise from radio frequencies can have a negative effect on the operation of renewable energy storage equipment. This can have undesirable consequences for the people and projects that depend on this equipment. For this project, a team of students will investigate how and why this occurs to help prevent this from happening in the future. They will develop a method of simulating radio frequency noise in the laboratory so that renewable energy technology can be designed in relation to it. Particular attention should be paid to the problems of design robustness, spatial restraints, and electromagnetic interference safety - so the device might be applicable to real-world scenarios and consequently lead to real-world change. A team of researchers for this project might be composed of individuals with knowledge and interest in industrial design, renewable energy, health, workplace safety, electrical, computer, mechanical engineering, and marketing.
