Background

CIFAL York, in collaboration with the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS) at the Lassonde School of Engineering and ADERSIM, is hosting a joint event focused on drones, payload technologies, and related services, training, and education. The event aims to create an engaging space for faculty, researchers, and students to connect with leading industry and institutional partners while exploring innovations in this fast-evolving field.

Drones and their payloads drive advancements across public safety, health, environment, agriculture, construction, transportation, energy, and infrastructure. Integrating multiple engineering and computing disciplines, they provide an ideal platform for EECS students to apply knowledge in real-world contexts. Guided by CIFAL York’s mandate to promote knowledge sharing and partnerships, this event strengthens collaboration between academia, industry, and international institutions.

Goals

This event aims to:

  • Strengthen Academia–Industry Partnerships: Leveraging the joint expertise of EECS, CIFAL York, ADERSIM Lab, and Lassonde, this event fosters meaningful collaboration among students, faculty, industry leaders, and institutional partners to drive innovation and global engagement.
  • Foster Experiential Learning and Innovation: Offering hands-on experience with drone and payload technologies, the event enables students to apply theory in real-world settings and develop interdisciplinary solutions for challenges in health, safety, environment, transportation, and infrastructure.

Objectives

  • Showcase emerging research and innovations in drone platforms and payloads.
  • Offer students hands-on demonstrations and workshops with drone technologies.
  • Foster professional networking and partnerships between students, faculty, and industry leaders.
  • Create opportunities for internships, co-op placements, and joint research projects.
  • Position Lassonde and CIFAL York as leaders in promoting responsible innovation and application of drone technologies.
