Dr. Luchuo Engelbert Bain is a global public health physician, implementation research scientist, and empirical bioethicist with over 15 years of experience. His work has involved sexual reproductive health and rights, research ethics, health systems strengthening/resilience, climate change and health, One Health, HIV, evidence synthesis, and monitoring and evaluation of public health interventions in low and middle-income countries. He has over 100 papers published in peer-reviewed journals.
He holds a Ph.D in Transdisciplinary Global Health Solutions from the Vrije Universiteit in Amsterdam, an executive MBA in Strategic Human Resources Management (UNIR), a Master’s of Science in Bioethics (Katholieke Universiteit Leuven; KU Leuven), a Master’s of Public Health Degree (Hebrew University), and an MD (University of Yaounde I, Cameroon).
In his previous roles, Luchuo served as a senior program officer with the Global Health Division of the International Development Research Centre (IDRC) in Ottawa, Canada. He has also worked as a consultant for the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), the World Health Organization (WHO), the Guttmacher Institute, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, the International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF), Population Services International (PSI), and the UK Foreign, Commonwealth, & Development Office (FCDO).
Luchuo is particularly interested in core epistemological questions regarding the decolonization of global health funding and research, global health diplomacy, global/public health curriculum design, and global health leadership, and is a strong believer in meaningful change in Africa by Africans.
