Job description

Under the supervision of Idil Boran, the Undergraduate Research & Project Coordination Assistant (for up to 10 hours per week) will support the administrative, research, and coordination functions of the BioCAM4 project. BioCAM4 is a multi-year, international research project focused on climate action, biodiversity, and environmental governance. The project places strong emphasis on professional research practices, structured coordination, and team-based learning within an institutional setting. This role is designed for an undergraduate student seeking hands-on experience in project coordination, research administration, and collaborative research environments.The role focuses on operational reliability, documentation, and coordination, supporting project leadership and contributing to the smooth functioning of a complex, multi-partner research initiative. The successful candidate will work closely with the Executive Director, Principal Investigator, Project Manager, and student research team, and will participate fully in the project’s structured governance and coordination practices.

Specific research activities the student(s) will be engaged in:

  • Assist with the coordination of project activities, events, and research outputs, providing administrative, logistical, and technical support
  • Attend and actively participate in BioCAM4 project meetings, events, and activities
  • Provide administrative and coordination support to the Executive Director and Principal Investigator, and Project Manager
  • Support partnership coordination and correspondence with BioCAM4 consortium partners as needed
  • Support the transdisciplinary research activities of the BioCAM4 consortium
  • Assist with communication and dissemination activities, as required
  • Support the writing and editing of blogs, briefs, and internal project documents, as needed
  • Track tasks, deadlines, and deliverables, and report progress to the team
  • Present progress updates and completed outputs to the project team and leadership when appropriate
  • Gathering and organizing data from: multilateral environmental agreements, international and domestic policy documents, interdisciplinary research literature, research organizations and project partners, media sources (as required)
  • Compiling, cleaning, and organizing quantitative and qualitative data using Excel, Word, and related tools
  • Creating and maintaining structured and annotated bibliographies
  • Managing sources using management software
  • Supporting literature reviews and assisting with the drafting and editing of research summaries and manuscripts
  • Researching and implementing best practices in research and data management
  • Supporting updates and maintenance of the project’s ethics protocol and documentation

Type of research experience the student(s) will receive:

  • Critical thinking
  • Conducting literature review; Creating annotated bibliography; Tabulating data;
  • Preparing presentations and written outputs of research; Editing and formatting drafts; Correspondence with partners and workshop invitees;
  • Professional communication, including international and cross-cultural professional interaction and communication

Type of training and support that will be provided to the student(s) in carrying out these research activities:

  • This role requires the ability to meet project expectations:
  • Attend weekly standing meetings in person at the Dahdaleh Institute
  • Participate in onboarding and training sessions
  • Use and support the project’s task allocation, progress tracking, and delivery systems
  • Complete assigned tasks on time and to standard
  • Report weekly hours accurately
  • Engage professionally and constructively with team members and supervisors

Qualifications

Required

  • Current undergraduate student at York University (students from diverse programs encouraged)
  • Excellent written, oral, and presentation skills
  • Demonstrated organizational and time-management skills
  • Ability to work reliably within a structured, team-based environment
  • Demonstrated willingness to:
  • follow shared systems and processes
  • meet regular deadlines
  • communicate clearly, professionally, and respectfully

Assets

  • Experience with Office 365 applications, including shared documents and spreadsheets
  • Comfort with structured filing systems and documentation practices
  • Familiarity with research methods (qualitative, quantitative, or integrative)
  • Interest in environmental governance, planetary health, global health, or global governance
  • Experience working in research teams or project-based environments
  • Strong analytical skills for organizing and categorizing complex information
  • Experience with WordPress or social media platforms (asset, not required)
