Job description
Under the co-supervision of Professor Mary Wiktorowicz and Dr. Syed Imran Ali, the Humanitarian Sector Water Safety Assurance Best Practices Research Assistant (for up to 11 hours per week) will:
- Support the Safe Water Optimization Tool (SWOT) project
- Support SWOT team members in the development of best practices and standard operating procedures on water quality monitoring and water safety assurance in the humanitarian sector
- Conduct a literature review on this topic to support the development of SOPs and best practices
- Support the SWOT team in convening a WASH sector expert working group on water safety assurance best practices in humanitarian response
Specific research activities the student(s) will be engaged in:
- Performing a literature search and bibliographical compilation
- Supporting The organization and coordination of an Expert working group
- Assisting with planning and carrying out an Expert panel meetings
- Key informant interviews
- Assisting with The Development of knowledge synthesis and Translation documents
Qualifications
- Current undergraduate York student in engineering, health, or science disciplines
- Demonstrated interest in global health and humanitarianism
- Experience working with people from a variety of backgrounds/cultures
- Excellent communication skills: professional email/phone correspondence, public speaking and presentation proficiency
- Demonstrated skills, experience, and familiarity with conducting literature reviews
- Excellent computer skills (word processing, email, database management, spreadsheets)
- Demonstrates an eagerness to learn and take on initiative
- Demonstrates organizational and time management skills
- Ability and willingness to work both independently and as part of a team with researchers, students, and staff
