Distinguished Fellowship in Learning and Teaching Excellence

It is with great pleasure that we welcome Dr. Julie Conder, Associate Professor, Teaching Stream from the Department of Psychology, to the inaugural position of Distinguished Fellowship in Learning and Teaching Excellence in the Faculty of Health.

Dr. Conder joined the Faculty of Health in 2017. With a background in cognitive neuroscience and cognitive science, she has a strong and active interest in teaching, with a focus on writing and critical thinking, pedagogy and student-centred issues that include stress and first-generation student experiences. Guided by her educational preparation and her experiences in mentorship and support of marginalized students’ groups, she has served as a student liaison and on various committees that advocate for equity, diversity and inclusive practices. Dr. Conder has been the recipient of student awards and the Dean’s Award for Excellence in Teaching in 2021.

Dr. Conder will hold this three-year position as of July 1, 2023. Her planned project work will involve teaching-learning initiatives that support first-generation students across our programs by using interactive e-learning modules and by applying innovative assessment strategies. In this leadership role, Dr. Conder’s commitment to research in the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning will advance teaching practice and student academic supports in the Faculty of Health and beyond.

Please join me in congratulating Dr. Conder on this appointment and wishing her success in this position.
