About the Dean
Dr. David Peters comes to York from Johns Hopkins University’s Bloomberg School of Public Health, where he served as the Edgar Berman Professor and Chair in International Health. Cross-appointed to both the School of Medicine’s Division of Infectious Diseases and the School of Nursing at Johns Hopkins, he was also director of the university’s Alliance for a Healthier World.
Dr. Peters has an MD from the University of Manitoba and a doctorate in public health from Johns Hopkins’ Bloomberg School of Public Health. When he joined Johns Hopkins University in 2002, he also held senior specialist positions with the World Bank. In these roles, he worked actively to improve the performance of health systems in low- and middle-income countries, with a focus on addressing the needs of poor and vulnerable people.
At Johns Hopkins, Dr. Peters was affiliated with the Bloomberg School’s Department of International Health – which he chaired from 2013 – and the university’s Center for AIDS Research, Center for Global Health, and Gupta-Klinsky India Institute. He also held an adjunct appointment with the International Institute of Health Management and Research, Delhi, and participated in numerous high-level societies, boards and professional and scholarly associations.
Bringing with him extensive academic and administrative leadership experience, Dr. Peters joins the Faculty of Health at a time of global transformation and new awareness of health issues.
