About the Dean
Dr. David Peters is Dean of the Faculty of Health and School of Medicine at York University. Previously, he held senior academic and leadership roles at Johns Hopkins University’s Bloomberg School of Public Health, where he served as Edgar Berman Professor and Chair in International Health. He was also cross-appointed to the School of Medicine’s Division of Infectious Diseases and the School of Nursing and served as director of the university’s Alliance for a Healthier World.
Dr. Peters holds an MD from the University of Manitoba and a doctorate in public health from Johns Hopkins’ Bloomberg School of Public Health. When he joined Johns Hopkins in 2002, he also held senior specialist positions with the World Bank, working to improve health system performance in low- and middle-income countries, particularly for poor and vulnerable populations.
At Johns Hopkins, Dr. Peters was affiliated with the Bloomberg School’s Department of International Health, which he chaired beginning in 2013, as well as the university’s Center for AIDS Research, Center for Global Health and Gupta-Klinsky India Institute. He also held an adjunct appointment with the International Institute of Health Management and Research, Delhi, and participated in numerous high-level societies, boards and professional and scholarly associations.
