Ingenuity at Work
Throughout my career, I have been fortunate to collaborate with some of the brightest minds in the world, tackling some of the most significant health challenges of our time. An inextricable throughline of this transformational work has been human ingenuity.
Ingenuity has prompted remarkable innovations in health services and programs around the world and inspired creative solutions to bridge some of the widest gaps in health equity for people who need it most.
Since I’ve started as Dean, I have been inspired by the exceptional researchers within our own Faculty. They embody the very same spirit of ingenuity as they explore uncharted territories, pushing the boundaries of knowledge and collaboration to find meaningful solutions to health and societal challenges.
Below, I'm proud to share just a few of the ways in which our researchers are having a tangible impact on the future of health and health care.
You'll read about how researchers at York University are leading a first-of-its-kind, interdisciplinary investigation into how emerging technology, like Artificial Intelligence, is transforming society, with the goal of creating a "techno-social collective"; how new research has re-examined the long-accepted "safety" of water fluoridation and unearthed critical new insights for pregnant people; how Beneva's Anxiety Research Fund is enhancing assessment and treatment options; and more.
I am also pleased to announce two new appointments to the esteemed Canada Research Chair program: Dr. Anthony Chum and Dr. Liya Ma. You'll find more about their creative research below.
The dedication, talent, and collaborative spirit exhibited by our talented faculty is truly inspiring. Each day, our researchers, educators, and staff push the boundaries of knowledge, leveraging their ingenuity to foster a culture of innovation and excellence.
Looking towards the future, we see immense potential emerging on the horizon. Our commitment to interprofessional and interdisciplinary research, coupled with a strong focus on student success, propels our endeavours to effect meaningful change in the health landscape within Canada and beyond.
As valued alums and friends, you hold a pivotal role in our journey. Whether through mentorship, philanthropy, or raising awareness about our work, your support empowers us to forge ahead with these ambitious initiatives and create a lasting impact.
I am deeply grateful for your support and dedication to the Faculty of Health. With that, I invite you to explore the stories featured in this newsletter, marvel at the ingenuity demonstrated by our researchers, educators, and staff, and join us in shaping the future of diverse and healthy communities.
Warm regards,
David Peters
