The Muscle Health Research Centre will be holding MHAD12 via Zoom on Friday May 28, 2021.  The program and abstract guidelines will be coming soon.

Features of MHAD12:

  • 8 Great speakers (see below)
  • Abstracts and Presentations: Abstracts can be submitted as usual via the website, and all abstracts submitted on time will be published in the MHAD12 proceedings. A selection of 10 of these from both MSC and PhD categories, will be chosen for short oral presentations via Zoom. These selected abstracts will be awarded $200 poster prizes each.
  • There is no charge for attendance, but simple registration on the website is appreciated to obtain a .pdf copy of the MHAD Proceedings, to receive the ZOOM invite, and to submit an abstract.

This is the current list of confirmed distinguished invited speakers for this years' event:

Registration and Abstract submission

Please fill out the Registration and Abstract formAll attendees must submit this short form via email to mhrc@yorku.ca in order to receive the ZOOM invitation to attend MHAD12.

If you are submitting an abstract, the form contains fields in which the abstract and authorship can be inserted. Completion of this form is absolutely required if you intend to submit an abstract.

Abstract submission Guidelines

All abstracts submitted by the deadline (below) will be published in the final .pdf of the MHAD12 proceedings, and sent to all registered attendees. Refer to this sample abstract [docx] for formatting purposes.

We invite abstracts from undergraduate students, Master's and PhD students, as well as Post-Doctoral Fellows on any topic related to muscle (skeletal, cardiac or smooth), exercise, health, disease, blood flow or metabolism. You may present abstracts previously used within the last 12 months at any scientific meeting, or abstracts that are to be presented at upcoming meetings. There is no word count limit for these abstracts, however, they are typically in the 300 word count range. Please do not include any figures with your abstract.

Abstract deadlines

  • To be considered for an Abstract Award and for presentation via Zoom, you must be currently enrolled in a Master's or PhD program, and your abstract must be submitted by FRIDAY MAY 21,2021 at 12:00 NOONYou are not eligible for an award if you submit after May 21.
  • Abstracts can still be submitted up to MONDAY MAY 24, 2021 at 12:00 NOON.  Although these later abstracts are not eligible for awards, they will be included in the MHAD12 Conference Proceedings, available to all registered attendees.  Abstracts submitted after this time will not be accepted.

Abstract Zoom presentation criteria and Award

The submitted abstract selected for a Zoom presentation and Award must address each of the following:

  1. clarity and timing of the 3 min presentation
  2. strength and completeness of the data
  3. ability to answer short questions within the 5 min time frameNumber of abstracts to be selected for ZOOM: 5 MSc and 5 PhD student abstractsValues of each of the 10 MHAD12 Abstract Awards: $200 CADOral Presentation guidelines: The presentation time allotted is 3 minutes, followed by 2 minutes for questions.  Please use the following guidelines:
    1. 5 Slides maximum:
      1. Title slide and name and affiliation
      2. Introduction and rationale slide
      3. data slide #1
      4. data slide #2 (optional)
      5. Summary, interpretation, conclusions slide, including credits (optional)
    2. Rehearse your talk to stay within the 3 min period. The Chair will stop you at 3 minutes if you continue beyond your allotted time.
    Oral Presentation Award ($200 USD): Sponsored by the American Journal of Physiology (Cell Physiology).  One MSc and one PhD oral presentation from the 10 presentations above will be selected by a panel of judges to receive this award based on these criteria
