New iJournal issue addresses ‘Difficult Memories and the Museum’ - Organized by Faculty Fellow Bruno R. Véras

The summer 2022 issue of the iJournal, focusing on Difficult Memories and the Museum, organized by Tubman Faculty Fellow Bruno R. Véras is out!

The iJournal is an open-access journal at the University of Toronto’s Faculty of Information (iSchool). It aims to foster collective identity and interdisciplinary understanding among information students, faculty, and practitioners in the field.

The articles here published range from religious intolerance and body and gender to debates about trauma, war, and dictatorship. But, despite different histories and conjectures being analyzed, all nine articles examine issues on difficult memories in the museum and/or archives and discuss globalization and its politics and representations.

“We’re really excited about this issue as it highlights the phenomenal work taking place in the [Museum Studies] program as well as the global conversations happening in museum studies regarding the management and curation of cultural artifacts associated with difficult pasts,” said Kaushar Mahetaji, outgoing editor-in-chief of the open-access journal, which is run by graduate students at the Faculty of Information.

Much of the work in this latest issue adopts a global perspective and comes from and/or is inspired by dialogue between students in Canada and researchers situated in Brazil. The special issue itself stems from work completed in MSL2115H (Global Cultures and Museums), taught by Prof. Bruno R. Véras.
