Faculty Fellow
Dr. Yvonne Su is an Associate Professor in the Department of Human Rights and Equity Studies at York University, a Visiting Scientist at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, and a Research Fellow at Oxford’s Centre on Migration, Policy and Society (COMPAS). Her interdisciplinary expertise spans forced migration, climate change adaptation and climate (im)mobilities. Her research adopts a policy-oriented and community-based approach with a focus on the Global South. Dr. Su has secured over $12 million in external research funding, including three multi-million-dollar climate grants examining climate adaptation in the Philippines, Bangladesh, Ghana, Canada, and the Arctic.
Dr. Su has published over 30 refereed journal articles in Q1 journals like the Journal of Ethnic and Migration Studies, Gender, Place & Culture, Journal of Gender Studies, Regional Environmental Change, International Journal for Disaster Risk Reduction, Geoforum, and Third World Quarterly. She has also written for Foreign Policy, The Washington Post, LA Times, Globe and Mail and the Toronto Star. Her research has been cited by the IPCC, UNDP, ICRC, and IOM, influencing global policy debates on climate adaptation and human rights. She was also one of 19 global experts responsible for drafting the UNHCR’s Global Recommendations on Nationality and Statelessness in the Context of Climate Change.
