Job description
Under the supervision of Prof. Martin Bunch, the planetary health research assistant (RAY program, 6 hours per week) will:
- Create and maintain a digital research repository of planetary health research (with a focus on ecohealth and Costa Rica initiatives)
- Investigate relevant funding opportunities
- Prepare meeting agendas with supporting documents, including taking minutes, recording actionable items, and ensuring appropriate follow-up
- Attend and actively participate in a weekly transdisciplinary seminar series including writing up content and other knowledge dissemination activities
- Provide event support
- Provide administrative and logistical support for research projects and possible travel arrangements
- Complete other duties as assigned
Specific research activities the student(s) will be engaged in:
- Create an annotated bibliography
- Write reports and summaries
- Research funding opportunities
- Identify researchers across York University with interests in planetary health
- Prepare agendas and minutes and coordinate event logistics
- Edit and format drafts
- Correspond with project partners
Type of research experience the student(s) will receive:
- Critical thinking, project design and design thinking, problem solving, research creativity
- Professional communication, including international and cross-cultural professional interaction and communication
- Literature review skills
- Skills with reading and preparing reports and grey literature
- Knowledge of funding landscape and grant preparation process
Type of training and support that will be provided to the student(s) in carrying out these research activities:
- Critical thinking
- Conducting literature review; creating annotated bibliography
- Preparing presentations and written outputs; editing and formatting drafts
- Professional communication, including international and cross-cultural professional interaction and communication
Qualifications
- Current undergraduate York student. Applicants from diverse programs of study are encouraged. - Skills and experience with conducting literature reviews
- Skills and experience organizing and promoting events
- Experience skills using library resources, including search engines
- Note-taking and file management skills
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills, including international and cross-cultural communication
- Excellent computer skills (word processing, email, database, spreadsheets, forms, and slides; facility with Office 365 Apps). WordPress editing skills are an asset. Social media communication skills are an asset.
- Excellent analytic skills for understanding, sorting, and categorizing complex information. Skills and resourcefulness in drawing mind-maps and tabulating information is an asset.
- Eagerness to learn, support, and take initiative
- Organizational and time-management skills
- Ability and willingness to work both independently and as part of a team with researchers, students, and staff
- Spanish is an asset
