Osgoode law students Hassan Ahmad, Alison Connolly and Connie Pauchulo finished in first place in the Pace/ICLN International Criminal Court (ICC) Moot Regional Round for the Americas and Caribbean, held Feb. 10 to 12 at Pace University School of Law in Westchester, NY.

The team was coached by Toronto criminal lawyer Leo Adler and Ontario Assistant Crown Attorney Anna Tenhouse.

The moot was the official English language round for the ICC Trial Competition to be held in The Hague April 22 to 27.  The global competition is sponsored by the Dutch government, in cooperation with Pace Law School, the University of Amsterdam, the American Society of International Law and the International Criminal Law Network (ICLN).

Osgoode competed against teams from 14 other universities at Pace, and two Osgoode students also won prizes – best orator for defence (Pauchulo in the round robin) and best orator in the final (Ahmad).

This year’s Osgoode team is following in the footsteps of prior Osgoode teams. Adler points out that in the previous four ICC competitions, Osgoode has won once, placed in the top three twice, and come in fifth place once.
