Award Description: The A. Saber M. Saleuddin Biology Scholarship in Animal Physiology will be awarded annually to a Year 3 or 4 undergraduate Honours student majoring in biology within the Faculty of Science, with a cumulative grade point average of 7.50 or higher, who has demonstrated interest and academic excellence in animal physiology. The recipient must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or protected person, an Ontario resident and demonstrate financial need.

Award Description: Awarded to an undergraduate student entering Year 1 of the Chemistry or Biology program in the Faculty of Science. The recipients' overall grade point average must be a minimum 6.00 (B) in the academic year immediately preceding admission to the Chemistry or Biology program. The student must be a resident of the Greater Toronto Area and demonstrate financial need.

Award Description: The Biology, Chemistry and Physics Scholarship will be given annually to a student in the Faculty of Science concentrating in Biology, Chemistry or Physics, or in a combined major comprised from only these three disciplines, and with a minimum GPA of 7.5. The recipient must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or protected person and a resident of Ontario who demonstrates financial need.

Award Description: Awarded to the most outstanding graduating student(s) in Honours biology as determined by the department. The criteria used will not be limited to grades but will include such things as research potential and leadership activities within the department. The prize will consist of an inscribed book and a monetary award and may not necessarily be given each year. The C.D. Fowle and B. Rozario Trust Fund was established in 1989 to honour the founding chairman of the Department of Biology, Professor Fowle, a well-known Canadian naturalist and conservationist.

Note: Normally, students receiving the Science Gold Medal for Academic Excellence will not be eligible.

Award Description: Awarded to the student with the best combined performance in the concurrent completion of the courses SC/BIOL 2010 4.00 Plant Biology and SC/BIOL 2030 4.00 Animals. This prize honours the contributions of Elizabeth Lander and Cynthia Dandy during their careers at York.

Award Description: Awarded to the top three students majoring in different science disciplines in the Faculty of Science. The Ruth Hill Memorial Scholarship Fund was established in 1973 to honour the late professor of biology.

Award Description: The William and Marguerite Davey Award has been established by K.G. Davey, Distinguished Research Professor Emeritus in Biology, and former Chair in Biology, Dean of Science and Vice President Academic to honour the memory of his parents. Although of modest education and very limited circumstances, they ensured a university education for their son, and through weekly family visits to the local library, implanted in him a love of books and of learning that led to an extraordinarily satisfying life of scientific scholarship. This award will be granted to a student entering the final year of an honours program in Biology at York who will be undertaking graduate study involving research in non-human biology at York or another University, and who, in the opinion of the faculty member most familiar with his or her work, shows the greatest promise as a researcher. To be eligible, the recipient must be a Canadian Citizen, permanent resident or protected person and a resident or protected person and a resident of Ontario, who demonstrates financial need with a minimum 6.0 (B) GPA. If no qualified undergraduate student is available, the award can be made to a student entering the graduate program in Biology at York who meets the above criteria
Application Process: Candidates may apply or be nominated by a professor. All candidates must fill out the current Student Financial Profile. In addition, applicants must submit a statement that speaks to his/her career goals, and should include an acknowledgement that the award is intended for students who intend to make a career in scientific research, and should explain how the student intends to reach that objective. The application must also contain a letter from at least one faculty member, who is familiar with the student's work. This letter must also acknowledge the requirement that the student have the goal of a career in research.
Note: Preference may be given to students who have participated in a summer research internship, a RAY internship or similar program, demonstrating an interest in research. Both the statement and supporting letter should be submitted to 151 Farquharson Life Science Building.
