Abhijeet Parikh graduated with B.A. Hons in Actuarial Science in 2018. He is now full time in the Legacy Actuarial and Data transformation team with Canada Life, a large Toronto-based insurance company that offers life, health and disability insurance products. Abhijeet joined York in 2016 as an international student from Mumbai, India, and according to him: “I had no clue how the Actuarial world functioned in Canada but studying at York gave me a unique opportunity to not only learn the technical aspects of Actuarial Science but also to get that extra edge over other candidates by improving the soft skills that I lacked in the friendliest and family-like environment.”

Abhijeet emphasizes that the support from York University helped him building a competitive resume and cover letter, and perform mock interviews before the actual ones. “York has a great community of students that help each other to overcome weaknesses and grow together as a group. This is hard to find in any other university,” declares Abhijeet.

He concludes: “it was a great opportunity to have insurance companies’ recruiters brought to the University for networking events. In July 2018, I was interviewed by three companies, London Life / Great-West Life, TD Insurance and Allstate Canada and received offers from all three companies. I chose to work for the former one (Canada Life, now) amongst the three companies.”
