Yes, but the letters may need to be adjusted based on the award criteria.

No. Self-nominations are not permitted. Nominations must be submitted by colleagues, supervisors, or other members of the university community.

Any eligible member of the university community may submit a nomination, including:

Strong nominations:

  • Clearly demonstrate how the nominee meets the award criteria
  • Provide specific examples and measurable impacts
  • Highlight contributions beyond regular job responsibilities
  • Include meaningful supporting statements

Yes. Supporting nominators must have some form of current or past affiliation with York. This can include formal employment or other recognized roles within the university.

For example, in research settings, an individual may not be directly employed by York but may work in a York‑based lab and actively collaborate with the nominee. This would still count as an appropriate affiliation.

All nominators will be informed once the selection process has concluded. Award recipients and nominees will be notified following the committee’s review process.

Nominations are reviewed by a selection committee. The process is confidential and based on the quality and impact of the submission.

You are welcome to provide a letter of support to the nominee if someone else is already determined to be the nominator.

Unfortunately, you cannot nominate someone who is a past recipient. For a list of past recipients, please view this page.

Yes! You can nominate more than one person. You will have to submit one nomination application per nominee.

The award ceremony typically takes place at the end of the calendar year.
