TTC Service Disruption

The Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) may be in a labour disruption as of Friday, June 7. If this happens there will be no TTC bus or train service. This could present challenges and travel delays for many members of the York community, including students, faculty, staff and instructors. The FAQs and general information below provides information about how the University is supporting its community in the event of a disruption.

All graduating students are asked to arrive 90 minutes ahead of the ceremony and we encourage everyone to give themselves extra time to arrive accordingly. This time allows the convocation team to organize graduating students and ensure students receive their graduation robe, hood and cap before the convocation ceremonies begin.  
 
If you are running late, the convocation team will do its best to accommodate you, if possible. If you arrive any later than the beginning of the ceremony, or cannot attend at all, the team will accommodate your participation in the fall convocation ceremony. 

No, convocation will continue as planned. Graduating students are recommended to arrive 90 minutes prior to their ceremony to prepare, which includes organizing graduating students and ensuring students receive their graduation robe, hood and cap. In the event of a TTC strike, it is recommended that you plan ahead and allow extra time to get to campus.  
 
Convocation guests are also encouraged to allow for extra time to travel to campus in order to avoid delays. Guests are recommend to be seated 30 minutes prior to the start of the ceremony. 

Please speak with your manager if you anticipate any scheduling challenges to arrange alternative arrangements if possible. Managers have been encouraged to extend flexibility to their staff, including students, in light of the strike.

We encourage you to try to plan ahead and make alternative arrangements if the TTC is your primary mode of transport to work.

If the professor chooses to change the delivery of their class, they will need to notify students. For updates regarding the delivery of your classes, students should check with their professors or their course website, such as eClass, for any updates.

Students will be required to continue attending classes in-person. If you are likely to face significant issues due to the TTC strike, it is recommended that you reach out to your professor to discuss their situation and any possible accommodations. Students are recommended to explore alternate forms of transportation and give themselves extra time to travel to campus.

Classes are expected to continue during the TTC strike. If you choose not to attend class, this may impact your attendance and/or participation marks and lab work. You may also miss important course material. Students are recommended to explore alternate forms of transportation and give themselves extra time to travel to campus.

Exams will continue as planned, unless otherwise communicated by your professors. Professors will provide timely updates leading up to exams and students are recommended to check their emails and course website, such as eClass, for the latest information. We recommend reaching out to your professor to discuss your specific circumstances. Professors have been asked to be flexible and may be able to provide accommodations.
