SHARP stands for Shared Accountability and Resource Planning and is a modified activity-based budget model. It’s York’s approach to building a transparent, collaborative and strategically aligned budget by involving Faculties and divisions in planning and decision-making.   

The budget is developed through a multi-step process involving revenue forecasting, expenditure planning and alignment with academic and strategic priorities. Final approval comes from the University’s Board of Governors in the spring. 

Primary sources include provincial government grants, student tuition and fees, and various ancillary revenues such as parking and housing. Research grants and donations also contribute to specific initiatives. 

York prioritizes investments that support students, academic excellence, sustainability, equity and strategic growth, in alignment with the University’s overarching vision.
