Executive MBA 9:30 a.m. ceremony - Dr. Narendra Singh, EMBA ’17, LLB ‘18
Dr. Singh has dedicated much of his adult life to improving the health of children. Born in Guyana and having migrated to Canada more than four decades ago, he is the founder and President of Guyana Help the Kids (GHTK), a registered Canadian charity. The goal of the organization is to address the very high infant mortality rate by developing a sustainable program through comprehensive education and the provision of specialized equipment.
Following his medical degree, he completed a pediatric residency program at the University of Western Ontario, a fellowship in pediatric critical care at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto and a fellowship in pediatric critical care at the Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh. He is also a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics and the American College of Critical Care Medicine. He is the former Chief of Staff at Humber River Hospital and has appointments as Associate Clinical Professor at McMaster University, the University of Toronto and Queens University. He is currently the Co-Program Director for the pediatric postgraduate program at the University of Guyana and an external examiner for the University of Guyana in the undergraduate medical program.
Dr. Singh is the author of more than 100 peer-reviewed articles and abstracts as well as a handbook in pediatric critical care. He has received several teaching awards from the University of Western Ontario and the University of Toronto. In 2013, he was awarded the Prix d’excellence (Specialist of the Year) by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. This award is given to the best specialist in Ontario, as judged by his peers. In 2017, he was presented with the Meritorious Service Medal for his charitable work in Guyana.
Executive MBA 12:00 p.m. ceremony - Trina McQueen OC, LLB ‘19
Schulich’s first Visiting CTV Professor in Broadcast Management, Trina McQueen has held senior executive and journalistic positions in the public and private sectors of Canadian television. She has been President and COO of CTV Inc; was the founding President of the Discovery Channel; and head of News Current Affairs and Newsworld for CBC. She has served on the Boards of the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, Telefilm Canada, and the National Film Board Advisory Group. She was chair of the Banff Television Festival and of the Canadian Association of Broadcasters television board. For her services to broadcasting, she was made an officer of the Order of Canada in 2005. She has been named a member of the Canadian Broadcast Hall of Fame, the Canadian News Hall of Fame and the Canadian Movie and Television Hall of Fame. Other awards include Canadian Journalism Foundation Award of Excellence and the Academy Achievement Gemini.
She is currently a Board member for the Canadian Opera Company, Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra, Banff Centre for the Arts, Historica Canada, and the Literary Review of Canada.
