Job description

Under the supervision of Prof. Idil Boran, the BioCAM4 Graphic Design & Video Animation Coordinator (for up to 5 hours per week) will:

  • Support the communication and dissemination of the "Biodiversity Integration in Climate Adaptation and Mitigation Actions for Planet, People, and Human Health" project
  • Assist in the development of a video scripts aimed to share about the intersection of biodiversity and climate change for communicating to academics, practitioners, government officials and the general public about, that will be shared on social media and the project website
  • Design appropriate illustrations and graphical elements to support infographics, social media images, and other communication outputs to share on social media platforms chosen in the plan (e.g. LinkedIn)
Specific research activities the student(s) will be engaged in:
  • Gathering data from international government and intergovernmental agencies (UNFCCC, CBD), research organizations including our international project partners, media;
  • Participate in the writing and editing of video scripts that summarize projectt research findings, and the more general biodiversity and climate change intersection.
  • Kowledge mobilization, by learning to summarize findings for social media, including in plain langugage and with graphical elements for the general public
  • Researching best practices in knowledge mobilization to inform the creation of engaging videos

Qualifications

  • Current undergraduate York student. Applicants from diverse programs of study are encouraged.   • Excellent communication skills: professional written and interactive correspondence, public speaking and presentation
  • Demonstrated skills in graphic design, video editing, animation
  • Demonstrated interest in environmental governance, planetary health, and global governance
  • Demonstrated knowledge of research methods (quantitative and/or qualitative and/or integrative)
  • Demonstrated skills using York University Library resources, including databases and search engines
  • Demonstrated note-taking, journal-keeping, and filing skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including international and cross-cultural communication
  • Demonstrated excellent technical skills (word processing, email, database, spreadsheets, forms, and slides; facility with Office 365 Apps). WordPress editing skills are an asset. Social media communication skills are an asset.
  • Demonstrated excellent analytic skills for understanding, sorting, and categorizing complex information.
  • Skills and resourcefulness in tabulating information is an asset.
  • Experience in working within a team is an asset
  • Highly-motivated to gain team-work experience
  • Demonstrated eagerness to learn, support, and take on initiative
  • Demonstrated organizational and time-management skills
  • Demonstrated skills and/or willingness to work both independently and as part of a team with researchers, students, and staff
