[Getting involved within faculty-student programs] can be incredibly beneficial. These programs offer opportunities to build meaningful relationships beyond just academic acquaintanceships. Especially during stressful times, like navigating university life, having a supportive community can make all the difference. It's reassuring to know that others are facing similar challenges and that genuine connections can be formed.
Bachelor in Geography 2017
"As a student, I recommend you explore opportunities beyond what academia can offer. Take advantages of opportunities outside of the classroom. If your program offers you an opportunity to take courses abroad or if there is a learning opportunity outside of classes – go for it!"
Bachelor in Environmental Studies 2018
"Get involved with as many things that interest you as possible! Many of the highlights of my time at York, and many of the friends I met, were through clubs and extracurriculars. For example, a huge part of my undergraduate degree was doing theatre with Vanier College Productions, even though that has nothing to do with the field I'm in. There's much more to university than just studying!"
Bachelor in Environmental Studies 2018
"The path to life is like entropy, order and disorder. The order is the instinctive pathway in life you choose, and the disorder is the variety of directions you take to achieve your goal."
Master of Science in Geography 2004
“Fully submerge to the academic environment and enjoy every moment of being a student. Read, learn, and write! While EUC offered me a great education, I gained something very valuable beyond it – lasting friendships, mentorship, and support. I am grateful for the great field experiences and the guidance I received from my mentors throughout my education and career.“
Bachelor in Environmental Studies 2020
“Take advantage of Student Counselling, Health & Well-being services. There are many resources available to students, ask questions and advocate for yourself, because there are staff and faculty who will help you along the way.”
Master in Environmental Studies 2022
I look at how film production integrates into community, movements, and society to create change
Bachelor in Geography 2014
My advice to students is to explore the variety of career paths that are available with a geography degree
PhD in Environmental Studies 2022
Professor Honor Ford-Smith was instrumental in my journey at York. She had a huge impact on me and supported my visions. Art-based research is important as no other medium effectively expresses the information and stories I wanted to share. With Ford-Smith’s support, I was able to communicate across disciplinary boundaries, mobilize knowledge, and reach audiences that I couldn’t reach with conventional writing.
Bachelor in Environmental Studies 2012
"As you start and continue your journey at EUC, learn with a purpose because what you learn can be useful beyond your grades. Find ways to prove what you have learned in your classes and build on your learning with volunteer placements and internships. Finally, network and don’t forget to be a good friend to your peers along the way because these friendships may last you a lifetime."
