Overview
Dr. Weiss authored a detailed analysis of the College of Psychologists and Behaviour Analysts of Ontario (CPBAO) Council’s proposed Registration Modernization changes.
These proposals represent a significant shift in the criteria for determining psychologists' competence to practice in Ontario. The analysis situates these proposed reforms within the College’s mandate to protect the public by ensuring that only qualified, competent, and ethical professionals are authorized to practise psychology in Ontario.
Purpose of the Document
The report aims to support informed, evidence-based dialogue about the implications of CPBAO’s proposed changes for:
- Public safety and professional competence
- Training standards and accreditation systems
- Supervised practice and entry-to-practice requirements
- Fairness and labour mobility in professional regulation
Key Findings
Dr. Weiss concludes that while the proposed reforms may improve efficiency and expand the number of individuals eligible for registration, they risk reducing Ontario’s safeguards for ensuring competence.
