Research methodologies in maternal and child health will be the focus of a one-day institute at York on Sept. 23.

Organized by Nazilla Khanlou, Echo's Chair in Women's Mental Health Research, in partnership with the Faculty of Health, the first Lillian Wright Maternal-Child Institute offers a chance for students, faculty and community members to share and learn about a variety of research approaches.

 Speakers are:

• Dr. Nasim Haque, director of community health at Wellesley Institute, a Toronto-based research and policy institute working to advance urban health, on Photovoice as an art-based research approach.
• Christine Kurtz Landy, a nursing professor in York’s Faculty of Health, on mixed-methods designs in maternal-child health.
• Olive Wahoush, a nursing professor at McMaster University, on challenges of conducting research with refugee families.
• Beryl Pilkington, a nursing professor in York’s Faculty of Health, on issues in international research collaboration in maternal-child health.
• Christine Tassopoulos (MSc ’10), a junior science officer with the Ontario Health Study and former Lillian Wright Maternal-child Health Graduate Scholarship recipient.   

The all-day institute starts at 9am, Sept. 23, in 280N York Lanes at Keele campus. This event is free and lunch will be provided. Space is limited, so register online now. Registration closes Aug. 31.
