Membership Privileges

York Libraries

All retirees are eligible for library borrowing privileges and for access to the archives of the university. Your YU Card will still serve as your library card and retirees have access to borrowing privileges.

York e-mail

All members are eligible for York e-mail for retirees. YURA members seeking a York e-mail retiree account should direct their requests to askit@yorku.ca

YU Card

All retirees are eligible for a YU Card. The card can serve as a:

  • library card
  • recreational facilities card
  • campus debit card, with funds deposited by the card holder -- can be used:
    • to make photocopies on campus where the YU Card is accepted for such purposes
    • to purchase food and beverages at most campus outlets on both the Keele and Glendon campuses
  • building access card, where after hours access is authorized

One faculty member has reported that the card can be used for entrance to European museums where faculty members are normally admitted free of charge. The YU Card, with its photo identification, is useful as an introduction to libraries and archives where some kind of official credential is required before admission is granted to materials.

The card is available at the William Small Centre, Room 222. Even though their list of retirees is deemed to be complete and up-to-date, we suggest that you call ahead to the YU Card Office (416-736-5674) to ensure that your name is on the list.

Parking

Parking is available in designated parking areas at both the Keele and Glendon campuses for members actively enrolled with the York University Retirees' Association. A limited number of parking passes are provided as a courtesy to YURA members who request them when they apply for membership each year.  Instructions on the use of these complimentary passes are issued at that time.

Additional parking information about designated parking locations, parking violations, etc., can be found here.

Recreation/Fitness

Exercise is important in one's senior years as it is the key to maintaining good health, and we would encourage all to stay engaged, whether through a local fitness centre or through the York offerings. We would like to remind all who might be interested in keeping fit that York offers through Tait McKenzie membership an "Employee Fit for Life Program" on the York campus which retirees are welcome to join. The Glendon campus also provides fitness facilities.

Further information on this and other York fitness programs can be obtained at the Tait McKenzie Customer Service Desk by calling (416) 736-5185 or online at www.recreation.yorku.ca. You can contact the Member Services Coordinator at the Glendon Athletic Club at (416) 736-2100 ext. 88338.
