Dahdaleh Institute Planetary Health Fellow Byomkesh Talukder recently published a chapter in a new book, titled Energy Systems Evaluation(Volume 1). The chapter discusses the procedures of multi-criteria decision analysis and how it can be useful for assessing sustainability. Sustainability assessment requires managing and assessing multidimensional indicators, and MCDA follows a transparent and structured process for decision-making by considering multiple criteria. Talukder's contribution to this new book examines the concept, procedure, strengths and weaknesses, and classification of MCDA as well as its suitability and the steps required to use it for sustainability assessment. The chapter includes two case studies of the application of MCDA techniques for sustainability assessment and considers their advantages and disadvantages as well as directions for further research.
