About the job: We are looking for a motivated Postdoctoral Researcher to join our research team at York University, Toronto, Canada. The successful candidate will work closely in collaboration with a team of experts. This is opportunity is for one year with the possibility of extending for a second-year deepening availability of funding and research output of the applicant. Experience in developing and applying machine learning techniques to infectious disease modelling, prediction and risk map assessment is required. They will work closely with the research team to design and implement predictive models for infectious disease outbreaks, incorporating data from various sources such as social media, climate, and geospatial data.
**Priority may be given to interested applicants who reside within Canada and/or who can start as soon as possible. **
This research is chaired by Professor Woldegebriel Assefa Woldegerima (wassefaw@yorku.ca) and is sponsored by a research grant from the Canadian Institute of Health Research (CIHR). The successful candidates will have the opportunity to be co-supervised by Professors Jianhong Wu, Jude Kong, Ali Asgary, and Nicola Luigi Bragazzi.
Requirements:
- A Ph.D. in a relevant field (e.g., mathematical biology, computer science with some experience in public health, etc.)
- Knowledge or some skills in the use of AI/ML techniques related to infectious disease modelling and prediction.
- Strong publication record related to their field of expertise.
- Good English language communication and presentation skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team: working closely with the research team, including graduate students and other postdoctoral fellows, and with other researchers within the department and across institutions. We offer a salary of $55,000 Canadian dollars per year before tax, as well as possibility to teach courses related to their area of expertise at the Department of Mathematics and Statistics.
