Graduate Committee

Mandate

The Graduate Committee shall review and recommend to Council approval or other appropriate action relating to degree requirements for all years of study and all graduate programs:

  • New or changes to diplomas
  • Proposals for new, deleted or changed Graduate Program
  • New course proposals, revised and deleted courses
  • Revised program, degree or Faculty regulations
  • Other matters relating to graduate policy and planning

The Committee shall receive and review quality assurance, cyclical program, and other reviews.

The Graduate Committee will receive graduate curricular submissions from the programs and report to Council on these matters according to Senate reporting requirements.  It will forward proposals to Senate as appropriate and report such actions to Council for information. It will collaborate with the Faculty of Graduate Studies on issues of joint concern.

The Committee will promote and celebrate graduate research and creative scholarship at the faculty level.

The Committee will adjudicate Faculty level graduate competitions and awards as applicable.

2025-2026 Meeting Dates

Meetings will take place from September to May and will be based on the availability of members.

The committee reviews and provides recommendations for new/revisions /corrections to graduate programs and courses.

Adjudicate and make final funding decisions / recommendations for the following graduate awards:

  • Conference Travel
  • Sammy Scholarship
  • March of Dimes Graduate Scholarship
  • Meighen Wright Foundation Scholarship
  • Short course/workshop
  • Harvey Skinner Agents of Change
  • Dean’s Graduate Impact Award
  • Jackman Scholarship
  • Special award/scholarship – due to donations
  • Other awards as necessary

The committee will be comprised of:

  • Graduate Program Directors from each of the Faculty’s schools/department. Terms of office shall be for the duration of their appointment as Graduate Program Director.
    • Note on voting Members: If there are multiple degree programs in a school/dept with GPDs, only one from that school shall be a voting member.
  • Two graduate students from the Faculty of Health (two-year term, renewable once). Attempts will be made to ensure students are from different school/dept. Graduate Students will be voting members.
  • Associate Dean, Research and Innovation (ex officio)
  • Note: For any meeting, guests may be invited to provide relevant input and help inform decisions but will be considered non-voting attendees.
