The Faculty of Health values student voices and encourages student participation in academic governance.
Volunteer opportunities are available for both undergraduate and graduate students to serve on Faculty Council Standing Committees and as Student Senators representing the Faculty of Health.
These roles provide students with the chance to contribute to academic decision-making and gain valuable leadership experience.

Each February, a call for nominations is emailed to all active undergraduate students in the Faculty of Health to announce available Student Senator positions.
Students interested in serving as Faculty of Health Student Senators are invited to submit an application.
In March, all candidates are vetted to confirm eligibility. Eligible candidates may then campaign for election.
Voting takes place in April to fill any vacant Student Senator positions.
Student Senators and Senate Responsibilities:
As defined by the York University Act, the Senate is the highest academic body at the university. Its primary responsibility is the development and oversight of academic policy.
Alongside senior administrative officials, students are also elected to serve on Senate. Faculty of Health Student Senators play an active role in both York University's Senate and the Faculty of Health Council, representing the interests and perspectives of Faculty of Health students. Senators are elected by their peers within the Faculty.
Commitment Required:
Candidates must be available to attend all Senate and Faculty of Health Council meetings.
- Senate typically meets on the fourth Thursday of each month, from September through June, between 2:30p.m. and 4:30p.m.
- Faculty of Health Council typically meets on the first Wednesday of each month, from September to May, between 3:00p.m. and 4:30p.m.
Meetings may be held in person and/or virtually. Consistent attendance and engagement are essential.

Applications are reviewed in early July, and successful candidates are notified shortly afterward. Committee secretaries will begin onboarding new student members in August.
