Office Supplies Program: Pricing Variances

This bulletin is to advise the community of developments concerning offices supplies.

Background

York University works collaboratively with other universities and government agencies to review opportunities for routine purchases, such as office supplies.  For the last seven (7) years, York was able to take advantage of the Staples ‘Super Savings List’ program.  The Staples contract expired in April of 2017 and the program is no longer available.

As a reminder, York University announced the execution of the Novexco Inc. (“Novexco”) contract for office supplies through the Ministry of Government and Consumer Services in the August 2017 Bulletin to the community.

Procurement Services completed a detailed analysis of the core items purchased by the University and made the determination that Novexco was in the best position to offer the greatest value to the community.  Notwithstanding, the community should anticipate a cost increase for supplies relative to the expired Staples contract.

Transition

As we finalize the transition to Novexco, all office supply offerings will be removed from the Sm@rtbuy Staples site.  As directed last August, effective September 1, 2017 all office supply purchases must be directed to Novexco using the Sm@rtbuy platform.

Management

The term of this arrangement is for three (3) years starting May 1, 2017 with the option to extend the contract for two (2) additional one-year terms in accordance with the same terms and conditions until April 30, 2022.

In the event of any major variances under this new contract, please contact Procurement Services to assist with any price negotiations with the vendor.
