Divya Chaturved I graduated with B.A. Honours in Actuarial Science from York University in 2018. She is now full time with Aviva Canada, the world’s fifth-largest insurance group.

Divya’s journey at York began in September 2014. She recalls: “I was always a fan of mathematics and really enjoyed solving problems. I knew that Actuarial Science was one of the most exciting and challenging careers to pick.” Divya can’t be happier about choosing York University as her alma mater: “The courses at York challenge you to do better, giving you the confidence to speak up in groups as well as hone other skills, such as programming and time management. York has quite a well-designed program, since I am confident enough to say that there is not a single course I took that has not been useful for passing the actuarial exams.”

She concludes: “At York, I had four co-op terms, three of them where I was in life, because I just wanted to try both sides, and one was at Aviva Canada with my current team actually. It was really satisfying to be able to apply material that I learned in school to real-life work, and knowing it was something that held actual meaning, rather than just coursework. By the time I graduated, I had received an offer of full-time employment at Aviva.”
