Frequently Asked Questions

Can Spouses/Partners join fitness programs or come to activities sponsored by YURA?

Spouses/Partners are welcome to participate in fitness programs or in any other activities which are sponsored by YURA.

If a retiree is deceased can the spouse or partner maintain his/her membership?

If a retiree is deceased the spouse/partner is welcome to add their name to the list of YURA members, but they must inform the YURA office that they wish to keep the membership. If the deceased has not completed the year in which the membership was paid for, the spouse can continue to use the privileges. When the membership expires, if the spouse wishes to continue he or she will have to pay the YURA dues in order to maintain membership.

Are retirees or their spouses entitled to the “academic fee waiver”?

Retirees between the ages of 55 – 60 may be eligible for tuition fee waiver, but must find out the current policy by contacting the Department of Human Resources at 416-736-5005 Ext. 77567 or e-mail: benefits@yorku.ca, in order to obtain the relevant information.

Retirees or their spouses who are 60 years of age or over will receive free tuition, but they must apply to the Admissions Office, where they would be required to fill out the appropriate forms in order to enroll in the desired course(s).

How do I change my address with York University?

Please contact the Pension & Benefits Office at 416-736-5853 or by e-mail, askpb@yorku.ca

Please ensure that your address is also updated with Sun Life for benefits coverage and also with CIBC Mellon, if you are a member of the York University Pension Plan. You can ask any member of the University's Pension & Benefits Team (contact info above) to arrange to update your address with Sun Life and CIBC Mellon.

Since retiring, I no longer receive YFile. Is there a way for me to subscribe?

YURA members may subscribe to YFile by going to https://yfile.news.yorku.ca/subscribe-to-yfile/ and clicking on the manage your subscription link. It is a two-step process; you will submit your request and a confirmation link will then be sent to your email (always a good idea to check your spam folder).

How do I volunteer to support the activities of YURA?

There are many opportunities for members to get involved in our activities. To indicate your interest contact the YURA office at yura@yorku.ca, or 416-736-2100 ext. 70664.

Where can I park?

Parking is available in designated parking facilities at both the Keele and Glendon campuses for members actively enrolled with the York University Retirees Association (YURA). A limited number of YURA Parking Vouchers are issued as a courtesy to those members actively enrolled on a yearly basis. For information about YURA Parking Vouchers, their use, and designated parking facilities, please click here.

What are the rules about entering the campus during COVID restrictions?

As the university needs to adjust its 'lockdown' protocols frequently, we suggest you visit York's Better Together web pages for current information at Better Together (yorku.ca)
