Building Financial Sustainability Through Volunteerism

ArtHeart Community Art Centre

Project Summary

The challenge was to find a way for ArtHeart, a 28-year old arts organization based in Regent Park, to become financially sustainable again. My solution was to build up their existing volunteer program to ensure that volunteers have the tools they need to do their job and are recognized for their contributions. Having appropriately trained and recognized volunteers in place frees up staff time to focus on fundraising and developing and delivering core programming, which are important elements to demonstrate when seeking funding. By finding resources to allow ArtHeart to continue operating, the community will benefit from a safe space where creative expression and community building can thrive.
