In March 2023, Dahdaleh Institute postdoctoral research fellow James Stinson returns from a week-long research trip to commence activities for the Partnership For Youth and Planetary Wellbeing – in Belize, he visited and worked with Partners at the Julian Cho Society, Maya Leaders Alliance, and Toledo Alcaldes Association. This work includes establishing a Youth Advisory Committee for the project, and engaging Indigenous Maya youth who will be trained as "young anthropologists" to conduct participatory research at the intersection of youth wellbeing and planetary health.

The Partnership for Youth and Planetary Wellbeing is an educative research project that harnesses, supports, and foregrounds youth-centred work in Canada, Chile, Costa Rica and Belize with three aims:

  1. To conduct unique research with, by, and for young people that centres and analyzes their work for planetary health
  2. To share data and analyses through international connections that facilitate flow and exchange of knowledge into global and local youth-serving communities who are empowered to enact change
  3. To co-develop with youth and their communities new educational tools to support life at the intersections of the SDGs, and not simply teach “about” them.

The Partnership is built upon long standing relationships with communities to employ decolonizing and educative data collection and knowledge sharing processes including youth-made films and stories that are shared in educative ways with multiple audiences (e.g., public, youth, NGOs, and policy makers).
