Help for Undergrads

  • If your course is full, and you wish to get on a waiting list, please fill in the form
  • Filling in this form is no guarantee that you will get into the course. We can't exceed the room capacity. But we'll do our best to help you enrol.
  • If the section you are trying to get into is full, then try to enrol in a different section - other sections may still have spaces!
  • Course restrictions on F term and Y term courses will be lifted at 11:59 PM on Wednesday, September 7th, 2022, and you may be able to enrol then.
  • The last day to add a course WITHOUT instructor permission is September 20, 2022 for F2022 and Y2022-2023.
  • The last day to add a course WITH instructor permission is October 4, 2022 for F2022 and October 25, 2022 for Y2022-2023.
  • Check the important dates for adding and dropping courses.

The Math & Stats Help Centre and Study Hub, located in ROSS S525, provides students one-on-one tutorial help for most first and second year introductory level MATH courses. Tutors are graduate students from the department.

You can also ask questions about your courses online at The Math & Stats Help Centre and Study Hub Discord server .

Bethune College has resources to help students succeed in their math and statistics courses. In particular, there are special tutorials for entering students who need to upgrade their skills in algebra and trigonometry. See Science Summer Transition Program and Math Summer Background Preparation classes .

You can get additional academic support through Bethune College's Peer Assisted Study Sessions (PASS). Study groups are a great way to accelerate your learning, especially in the Sciences. By regularly getting together with others in your class to study you can compare and review study notes, discuss and clarify concepts, develop and evaluate study strategies, and prepare for tests and exams.

ALEKS is an online adaptive module that will refresh students' high school math. Students can access ALEKS through eclass. If you are having trouble accessing ALEKS please contact sciquest@yorku.ca 

  • If you miss a test/assignment due to a valid medical emergency, please contact your course instructor directly. Each individual course has specific procedures and rules that you must follow, and it is your responsibility to be aware of them.
  • If you miss a final exam due to a valid medical emergency, please follow the Deferred Exam Procedures instructions. Send the completed Deferred Standing Agreement and Attending Physician's Statement to ugmath@yorku.ca and your instructor no later than one week after the date of the missed exam.
  • Math/Stats has one Common Deferred Makeup Date for each exam period. This date is not negotiable.
  • If you defer your final exam, you can't use that course as a prerequisite for another course until you write the deferred exam, and you may be de-enrolled from other courses that require that course as a prerequisite.
  • You can only defer a final exam once. If you don't write on the deferred date, you must submit a formal petition (see info on petitions below).
  • Final grades will be posted online. If the grade is not available, students should contact their instructor. The Undergraduate Office does not give out grades to students. If a student deferred their exam, their grade will not appear online. After students write the deferred exam, they can obtain the grade from their instructor.
  • If a student feels their grade is not correct, they should contact their instructor. Students can also
    request a reappraisal of their exam or final grade by submitting the Reappraisal Request Form[PDF] to ugmath@yorku.ca (this can result in grades going up or down). The deadlines for Grade Reappraisal are: Fall Term (F) February 15th, Fall/Winter (F/W) June 15th, Winter (W) June 15th, Summer (SU, S1, S2) September 30th (or 21 days from the release of grades, whichever is later).   • Student Accessibility Services can help if disability related barriers make it difficult for you to access course materials and demonstrate your knowledge and skills. Accommodations are designed to give you equitable access to education.

The Advanced Multimedia Lab (also called the "Gauss Lab") supports those of our mathematics and statistics courses which have a significant computing component. Some of these courses meet in this lab. At times when no classes are scheduled there, the Gauss Lab is open for general student use. Learn more about computer access at Computing at York.
