  • Faculty launches new Five-Year Strategic Plan (2023 – 2027) - Dean Robert Savage is delighted to announce the launch of the Faculty of Education’s new Five-Year Strategic Plan (2023-2027).  The plan, which was ratified in December, sets the vision and direction of the Faculty for the coming years and is the result of the Faculty’s sustained collective activity and core shared social justice values and goals of equity, diversity, inclusion, and decolonization.   • Congress 2023 - The Faculty of Education’s Congress Working Group is pleased to present four Faculty-led events for Congress 2023. Learn more and register. In addition to these four events, faculty members and graduate students will also be presenting a number of sessions. Learn more

  • Call for volunteers for Congress 2023 - We are looking for people who are interested in contributing to making this a great experience for all CSSE attendees.  If you are available to contribute at least 2 conference days (for 4-hour blocks) you could join in on this great experience.

  • BA Educational Studies students produce educational videos on sustainability - Bachelor of Arts Educational Studies program students on the required practicum capstone course, joined forces with the UNESCO Chair in Reorienting Education towards Sustainability to create educational videos covering current global education themes. Read more

  • Family creates award to honour a teacher who transformed lives - For Savitri Ahuja, educating others was much more than a personal passion and rewarding career.   • On April 26th the Office of Academic Programs hosted a luncheon to celebrate and thank outgoing seconded Faculty colleagues who will be transitioning back to their respective school boards this September.

Student Services Office
  • The Undergraduate Student Services team advised new Year 1 BEd students who will be starting the program this coming August.  The team spent two hours twice a day from May 1st to the May 12th advising just over 640 students.  We have some very excited students starting with us

  • Over the next month we will see the first year BA Educational Studies students starting their YU Start enrolment which is the New Student Transition Program designed to support the student’s way into and through their first year at York University. Through this transitional program, students will enroll in courses, connect with fellow classmates, student leaders, student services staff and become more familiar with campus life, student support systems and resources available. We have hired a York student, Haydn Bartha to support students’ and answer their questions as they navigate through YU Start and get ready for September.  Haydn will be offering campus tours starting mid-June for new students wishing to see the campus including our newly renovated building

  • Thank you to the many faculty members and graduate students who participated in the Workshop Series, Thinking Together about Processes and Problems in Research and Scholarship. Congress 2023:

  • A full program of our four Faculty-led events has been launched as a webpage (https://www.yorku.ca/edu/congress-2023/) and is posted on the Faculty of Education website under quick links. Thank you to the IT and Communications and Marketing teams for their support in developing this resource

  • ‘The optics are terrible’: Toronto police criticized over senior officer’s role as head of internal discipline - Carl James, the Jean Augustine Chair in Education, Community and Diaspora at York University, weighs in on the appointment of a senior officer to lead internal investigations at Toronto Police Services despite a career that includes the on-duty shooting deaths of two Black men. “Unless that culture shifts and different questions, different programs and different practices are taken up … we’re going to have the same reproduction over and over again,” said James.
