Teaching Experience for Additional Qualification Courses

One year is equivalent to 194 teaching days that are not limited to a calendar year. This may be obtained from supply teaching, LTOs or permanent work.

Part 2 AQs: One year of certified general teaching experience obtained prior to the start date of this course.

Part 3 AQs: Two years of certified teaching experience obtained prior to the start date of this course, one of which must be in the subject of the AQ.

Honour Specialist AQs: Two years of certified teaching experience obtained prior to the start date of this course, one of which must be in the subject of the AQ.

PQP, Part 1: Five years of certified general teaching experience obtained prior to the start date of this course.

To verify this experience, a Supervisory Officer’s Form should be submitted to the Office of Professional Learning upon registration. These forms will be accepted until the end of your course. Forms received after the course ends will result in a delay in sending course recommendations to the OCT.

Registrants must fill out the top portion and have the bottom completed by their Superintendent. If in a private school, a Ministry of Education representative must sign it. A Principal’s signature does not satisfy this requirement.

It is a registrant’s responsibility to ensure they meet this prerequisite prior to registering for an AQ. To help you determine if your teaching experience is acceptable for entry into an Additional Qualification course, please review this chart on the OCT website carefully.

A Supervisory Officer’s Form can be downloaded from our site here.

Completed forms are to be emailed to raiseyouraq@edu.yorku.ca.
