Technological Education Schedule B ABQs that York Offers

Prerequisites

Prerequisites for Schedule B ABQs are set by the OCT.

  • A Certificate of Qualification and Registration with the OCT
  • One Technological area listed on your OCT Certificate

If you do not have Technological Education on your OCT certificate, you must submit work experience letters and meet one of the following options:

  • 5 years of full-time related wage-earning experience OR
  • 3 years of full-time related wage-earning experience after successful completion of a related 2-year diploma program OR
  • 2 years of full-time related wage-earning experience after successful completion of related 3- or 4-year degree program

Note: Related work experience must demonstrate use of skills and knowledge related to the technological education subject for entry and may include business or industrial experience. One year of full-time work experience is equivalent to 1,700 hours. If you are self-employed, you must submit a sworn affidavit, a business license, and proof of income.  All work experience is assessed on a case-by-case basis.

Q: What are Schedule B Technological Education ABQs ?
A: Schedule B Technological Education ABQs:

  • Are taken to further proficiency in Technological Education.
  • Designed to extend teaching knowledge and skills in the design, program delivery and assessment of technology programs.
  • Address the development of adolescents, the school environment and other issues related to teaching and learning in secondary school technological education programs.
  • Intended for educators with related work experience and/or academic background in the field.

Q: I have experience in an industry, but I don’t know if it will count toward the prerequisite. What do I need to know?
A: Industry work experience must be wage-earning. One year of experience is equivalent to 1700 hours of work. All work experience is assessed on a case-by-case basis.

Q: I have not worked in the industry for some time now since becoming a teacher. Would my work experience prior to teaching still count towards the prerequisite requirement?
A: Work experience does not have a time limit. As long as your previous employer can provide supporting documentation, we will be able to review it.
