I have received transfer credits, will these credits be transferred into the ITEC program?

Yes.

• i) Admissions determines the total transfer credits a student is eligible to receive from another university or college at the point of admission to York University. Not all transfer credits received may be applied to fulfill the requirements for the ITEC program.
• ii) For current York students transferring into AP/ITEC: The list of transfer credits received from Admissions might not include all the ITEC courses you should get credit for. Therefore it is always a good practice to meet with the School of IT Director or Undergraduate Program Director as soon as you have been admitted to the ITEC program. This meeting is needed to assess possible exemptions from ITEC courses.

I am a new ITEC student and I wish to take ITEC 1000 3.00 and/or ITEC 1010 3.00. Which should I take first?

These courses may be taken in either order, or even concurrently.

Is there a required order in which the mathematics courses must be taken?

Yes. MATH 1190 3.00 must be completed before MATH 2565 3.00.

Must I take ITEC 1620 3.00 in my first year in the ITEC program?

Yes. This course is designed to be a first-year computer programming course.

What courses may I take toward fulfilling the requirement of 18 credits outside the major: (not applicable to students taking a double major or major/minor)?

You may take any course that is not ITEC or is specified as a major course. You may not take General Education courses to fulfill this requirement.

Prior to entering ITEC, I have successfully completed computer science courses. Will I receive any ITEC major credits for these courses?

Yes. You may replace:

• ITEC 1620 3.00 with COSC/CSE 1020 3.00,
• ITEC 2620 3.00 with COSC/CSE 1030 3.00,
• ITEC 3220 3.00 with COSC/CSE 3421 3.00,
• ITEC 3230 3.00 with COSC/CSE 3461 3.00,
• ITEC 1000 3.00 with a COSC/CSE course which has not been used towards another requirement. If there are no such COSC/CSE courses, you are allowed to replace ITEC1000 with another ITEC course outside the major.

Prior to entering ITEC, I have successfully completed mathematics courses. Will I receive any ITEC credits for these courses?

Yes. You may replace:

• MATH 2565 3.00 with MATH 2560 3.00, or MATH 2570 3.00 or MATH 1131 3.00.

Can I graduate with a 3-year BA ITEC degree and continue later into an Honours BA or BAS ITEC program?

Yes, if your GPA at graduation was at least 5.0.

Is there an Internship program for ITEC students at York?

Yes, the Honours ITEC programs offer an Internship. Currently over 10 Honours BA or BCom ITEC students are doing their work placement (up to 16 months). To qualify you must have completed a minimum of nine credits in ITEC courses at the 3000 level and you must have a B average or better in all ITEC courses taken. At the time of applying for the Internship you should have a minimum of 18 credits remaining in the program for graduation.

Does York offer a master's degree in ITEC?

York recently launched a new Master of Arts in Information Systems & Technology (MAIST) program that addresses advanced topics in IT through a dual focus approach. This approach aims to combine the application of research-based knowledge with the real world challenges experienced by working professionals in the Information Technology (IT) field. Offered in both part-time and full-time formats, the program fits the needs of IT academics and professionals alike.

I want to take a course but the course description says it is a course credit exclusion for a course I have previously taken. What does course credit exclusion mean?

A course credit exclusion means that course you want to take has significant overlap with the course you have already taken therefore you may not take both courses for degree credit. You may receive credit for only one course. Should you decide to take the course, it will be considered a repeated course. The second time you take a course (passed or failed) becomes the grade of record. The first time taken course will be excluded for credit and average and will receive a transcript notation NCR (no credit retained).

What are the general prerequisites in the ITEC programs?

Students pursuing BA ITEC programs, must have successfully completed all 1000 and 2000 level required courses in information technology and mathematics required for their program option before taking courses in information technology at the 3000 or 4000 level. Student must obtain a minimum grade of C in either AP/ITEC 2610 3.00 or AP/ITEC 3010 3.00 in order to graduate.

The credits required for the ITEC program are less than the credits required to graduate in either the 90-credit bachelor degree or the 120 credit honours degree. What courses should I be taking to meet the number of credits required to graduate?

Students who have fulfilled all the requirements of the degree may take free choice courses (including ITEC or non-ITEC courses) for the balance of credits required for graduation.
