Book a Demystifying Academic Writing In-class Visit for your course!
The Writing Centre is pleased to offer in-class visits from qualified writing instructors in the Fall and Winter terms of each academic year.
During the visit, our instructors will deliver our interactive one-hour Demystifying Academic Writing workshop. The workshop focuses on helping students respond to their coursework more effectively by taking a strategic approach to reading and writing that emphasizes critical thinking and a recursive writing process.
Demystifying Academic Writing Workshop introduces students to Writing Centre resources and prepares them for their upcoming writing assignments by providing strategies to help students:
- Meaningfully connect their assignments to their course material
- Break their assignments down into manageable components
- Employ analytical, critical thinking in their discussion
- Use a reading-to-writing process to recognize and employ the discipline-specific structural and rhetorical conventions modelled in their assigned course materials and research articles
- Understand the importance of repeated review and revision in the writing process
How to Book
Invite us into your classroom by completing our Classroom Visit Request form (below) and providing a course outline/syllabus, plus assignment instructions so we can customize the workshop to suit your students' needs and the course's disciplinary conventions.
How it Works
Please book early to allow us to accommodate your schedule. We provide one course visit per term. Bookings are available for courses/lectures only, as our resources will not allow for tutorial visitis. Instructors and TAs are expected to attend Workshop sessions.
Our instructors will reach out to book a pre-workshop meeting to discuss class needs and expectations.
