Company Description

Building Up is Ontario's largest non-profit social enterprise in the construction sector. We operate an intensive pre-apprenticeship program through our in house training centre that has served over 500 Torontonians with barriers to employment.

Following the in-class training, participants work on our sites and are then placed into careers in the construction sector at a rate of over 80%.

Our social enterprise includes a team of over 20 project managers and supervisors who oversee sites with our participants. Our staff includes licensed plumbers, electricians, carpenters and labourers who work with our participants to carry out projects professionally and competitively. We have completed projects for many large purchasers including Toronto Community Housing, Daniels, York University, Crosslinx, Parks Canada and many others.

We complete about $5M in sales annually and have a long track record of delivering strong quality while providing deep impact in the community.

Community & Social Impact

Building Up has trained nearly 600 Torontonians with barriers to employment of which 81% have been placed in full time careers in the construction industry. We provide in house training, couselling, financial coaching, job development and case management. We serve individuals with significant challenges and work holistically to support them. As a non-profit, we do not train and hire people to take on work, rather we take on work to train and hire people. We use every project as a vehicle to provide meaningful training and mentorship, and are committed to supportin our participants to not only get jobs, but to complete their apprenticeships and break the cycle of poverty.
