Company Description​

The mission of the Green Campus Cooperative is to promote social justice and sustainability by encouraging more responsible and sustainable patterns of consumption on university campuses and in the broader community. There are two primary ways in which we pursue this mission.

First, the cooperative provides its members with affordable, quality products and services that are produced in a sustainable fashion. For us, this entails offering products that have Fairtrade and organic certification.

Second, the cooperative offers opportunities and support for its members, especially students, to actively engage in all aspects of its business operations. In particular, we seek to provide students with experiential education opportunities (e.g., through placement courses, internships, research assignments, summer employment programs, etc.). Through such opportunities, we seek to foster the development of the next generation of sustainable social entrepreneurs.

Community & Social Impact

The Green Campus supports farmers and workers in the Global South through its policy of purchasing only garments that are made with certified fairtrade and organic cotton.

This policy helps to ensure environmental and social sustainability along our supply chain as farmers receive a guarantee minimum price for their cottons (along with a fairtrade social premium and an organic premium) and workers rights are ensured (including labour rights and minimum wage standards).

We also promote best practices. In this regard we only source from (a) factories that are social enterprises or (b) factories in which the farmers have an ownership stake.
