Andy Chan

Andy Chan, is a senior partner and international lead at Miller Thomson LLP. He is a highly regarded lawyer whose practice focuses on corporate governance, mergers and acquisitions, cross-border transactions and complex stakeholder matters. Over more than two decades in practice, he has earned a reputation for strategic insight, sound judgment and leadership across the legal profession and the broader business community.

Andy’s connection to York University began as an undergraduate student in its Coordinated Business program. The academic foundation he developed at York helped shape his educational and professional trajectory, ultimately bringing him back to the University to earn his JD from Osgoode Hall Law School in 2000. He has maintained a longstanding connection to York through the legal and business community.

At Miller Thomson, Andy has held several significant leadership roles, including serving as managing partner of the firm’s Markham office, where he helped lead its transformation into what is now the Vaughan office, one of the firm’s most successful locations. His professional career has also been distinguished by a rare and notable transition from litigation to corporate law, bringing together the discipline of advocacy with the collaborative and forward-looking demands of dealmaking. He was also appointed by the Government of Ontario to the Business Law Modernization and Burden Reduction Council, where he contributed to legislative reform affecting businesses across the province.

In addition to his professional achievements, Andy has long been active in community and volunteer leadership. He has served as past president of one of the region’s most influential business associations and as a founding director of two international trade organizations. His broader community involvement has included sitting on the boards of the Cross-Cultural Community Services Association, Markham Stouffville Hospital and advisory initiatives within the legal profession.

His contributions have been recognized through several honours, including the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal, the FACL Lawyer of Distinction Award, the Lexpert Rising Star Award, and recognition in Best Lawyers in Canada and the Canadian Legal Lexpert Directory.
