Paul Cantor, BA, LLB, FICB

Paul Cantor

Mr. Cantor was appointed to the Board of Governors in 1998 and served as Chair from July 1, 2009 to June 30, 2012 at which time he became an Honorary Governor.

Mr. Cantor is currently Chair of the Board of Revera Inc and concurrently Senior Advisor at Bennett Jones LLP; and held previous positions as Chairman and CEO of National Trust Company, President and CEO of Confederation Life Insurance and President, Investment Bank, Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce. He was the first Executive Director of the Toronto International Leadership Centre, an initiative sponsored jointly by York University, the World Bank, and the Canadian Government. Previously he served with the Canadian Department of Finance, Polysar Limited, and World University Service of Canada. He acted as Chair of the ICD Committee on the governance of Executive Compensation, and served as Chair of the Lifelong Learning Task Force for the Ontario Premier’s Council on Economic Renewal, and as a member of the Advisory Council of the Faculty of Commerce and Business of the University of British Columbia. He has also served on the Federal Reserve Bank of New York’s Capital Markets Committee, as Chairman of the Lewis Perinbaum Award for International Development and on the boards of the Queen Elizabeth Hospital and the Stratford Festival.
