We Create Our Freedom with Andre Lopez

Andre Mandela Lopez is a multidisciplinary artist and healing arts educator whose work weaves ancestral memory, community care, and spiritual connection. Drawing from Indigenous traditions of South America and the Caribbean, his murals, tattoos, and illustrations become portals for healing and transformation.

For the CALACS conference at York University, Andre unveils two murals: a solo piece honoring Earth and ancestry, and a collective creation with students and faculty—an act of intergenerational storytelling.

Andre believes we are all artists, and that creativity is a birthright—a path to freedom, joy, and remembrance.
