Faculty of Education Public Lecture TONIGHT - A friendly reminder about this evening's free online public lecture featuring associate professor Sue Winton who will give a talk entitled "Unequal Benefits: Privatization and Public Education in Canada". In this talk, critical policy scholar Sue Winton will draw on her book, Unequal Benefits: Privatization and Public Education in Canada, (University of Toronto Press), to explain how growing education privatization is undermining public education and democracy. Specifically, she will show how policies, such as fundraising, fees, and specialized schools and programs among others, enable some kids to accumulate more advantages from public education than other children, often reproducing patterns of social inequality that exist outside schools. Associate Professor Qiang Zha was successful in the 2022 SSHRC Partnership Grant Stage 1 competition for his project, “Reimagining Liberal Arts Education with a Trans-Continental Partnership,” and was invited to Stage 2 -  Zha and his team will be launching the L(iberalArts) ED(ucation) speaker series as a part of this project. The three speakers are: Marie Battiste (Cape Breton University in Canada), Teun Dekker (University College Maastricht in the Netherlands), and Ka-Ho Mok (Lingnan University in Hong Kong). Stay tuned for details

Introducing the 2022-23 Faculty of Education Student Association (FESA) Executive - The Faculty of Education Student Association (FESA) is a student council made up of undergraduate education students. In addition to representing education students, the members of FESA also plan a variety of events and services throughout the academic year including conferences, workshops, selling merchandise and producing their own student newsletter. Sustainability on the Go 2022 (SOTG 2022) - The theme of this year’s conference, co-organized by York International, the UNESCO Chair in Reorienting Education towards Sustainability and International Partners, is “Navigating the New Normal in Higher Education.” The conference seeks to bring together participants from around the world with an interest in student mobility in post-secondary education with an eye toward making it more inclusive and sustainable. New Publications
