Overview

The full-time Bachelor of Education (BEd) consecutive program model features:

1. Duration of three semesters, from May to end of April
2. 15 academic courses (45.00 credits)
3. Two  school-based practicum placements
4. Option of applying to an off-campus location*

Applicants must hold an approved degree from an accredited degree granting institution and must present a minimum overall grade point average (on a 14-point scale) based on the final 60 credits or equivalent (10 full courses, or final two years of full-time study) in an undergraduate degree program.

Minimum GPAs for admission:

• Y10  Primary/Junior (JK to Grade 6) - GPA = A-
• Y20  Junior/Intermediate (Grade 4 to Grade 10) - GPA =  B
• Y30 Intermediate/Senior (Grade 7 to Grade 12) - GPA = B  

Your undergraduate degree must be completed no later than April 2027. Courses taken in Spring/Summer 2027 cannot be considered. York University Faculty of Education will request proof of graduation (or eligibility to graduate) in April 2026. There are no exceptions.

*Locations

Students in the Consecutive Bachelor of Education (BEd) model will participate in classes on the Keele campus.     

Graduates of the Glendon program in French Studies may be able to apply for limited spaces with the cohort on the Glendon campus.

Please note: there are tentative plans to also offer Primary/Junior (JK to grade 6) division at the York University Markham campus.  If this opportunity becomes available applicants will be able to select this location on the Supplementary Information Form.  

Please be advised that programs in the Faculty of Education are delivered on campus; school placements can only be completed at partner school boards, which are located in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA).

PLEASE NOTE: The Bachelor of Education (BEd) is a full-time degree program that is scheduled during the day; students should be prepared to be in class and/or practicum for the full day, from Monday to Friday, with readings and assignments being completed outside of scheduled times. Personal appointments, employment and other activities should be scheduled outside these times. The degree is delivered on campus (or on the official offsite locations in Toronto as scheduled). School placements can only be completed at partner school boards, which are located in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA). 

Teaching Certification Levels

Students are required to choose from one of three teaching levels:

Y10 Primary-Junior - Applicants do not choose teaching subjects at this level as teachers usually teach all subjects to children.

Y20 Junior-Intermediate - Applicants must choose one teaching subject for the Junior/Intermediate teaching level, and you must have completed at least 4 full‑year undergraduate courses (or equivalent) in the teaching subject selected. We will consider you for admission only if you have successfully completed a minimum of 2 full‑year university courses (or equivalent) with at least a B average for the selected teaching subject by the November 2, 2026, deadline. If more than the required number of courses have been completed, we will calculate the average using the highest grades.

Y30 Intermediate-Senior -Applicants must choose two teaching subjects and must have completed, or be completing, an Honours program with at least 6 full‑year university courses (or equivalent) in the first teaching subject and 3 full‑year university courses (or equivalent) in the second teaching subject.   We will consider you for admission only if you have successfully completed a minimum of 3 full-year university courses (or equivalent) for the first teaching subject and 1 full-year university course (or equivalent) for the second teaching subject with at least a B average in each by the November 2, 2026, deadline. If more than the required number of courses have been completed, we will calculate the average using the highest grades.
