The Emily Tjimos Staff Award for Service Excellence was created in memory of Emily Tjimos. Emily demonstrated exemplary service and support to her colleagues, students, and other members of York University during her 25-year career, including 15 years in the Faculty of Education.
The Award will be presented annually at a Faculty event.
A permanent staff member (YUSA 1 or CPM) who has been continuously employed in the Faculty of Education for at least 2 years.
This award recognizes excellence in service and support to students, faculty, staff and/or others, and will be awarded to a staff member who:
- Demonstrates the highest level of service excellence;
- Promotes a work environment that is respectful, supportive, collegial and inclusive;
- Promotes the spirit and goals of the Faculty of Education and York University;
- Adheres to a standard of professionalism that inspires others.
- A complete nomination package must include three (3) nomination letters;
- 1 nomination letter from the nominator;
- 2 letters of support.
- The nomination letter must be authored by a member of the York University community;
- Each letter will only have 1 author and will not include testimonials from others;
- Each letter does not exceed a total of three (3) pages;
- References or confidential documents should not be included in the nomination package;
- Self-nominations will not be accepted.
The complete nomination package is to be submitted by the nominator.
- Review the award information, eligibility, criteria and nomination guidelines carefully;
- Start preparing the nomination well in advance;
- Identify and contact individuals who may be able to provide letters of support.
Nomination and supporting letters help to illustrate the nominee’s contributions from different perspectives. These letters should clearly describe the contributions of the nominee and provide specific examples of how the nominee meets the criteria and how they have impacted the Faculty and the University community.
Supporting letters are obtained by the nominator and submitted as part of the complete nomination package. Letters must be written by someone other than the nominator or the members of the Selection Committee.
Nomination packages must be submitted no later than 4pm on June 16, 2026.
Selection will be determined by a Committee, consisting of the following representatives:
- Dean of the Faculty
- Executive Officer
- 1 staff member (previous recipient)
- 1 faculty member
- People Partner (Human Resources)
Members of the Selection Committee may not initiate nominations or write a supporting letter. If a member of the Selection Committee is nominated for the award, they shall excuse themselves from the committee during the respective award period.
Nominators, nominees, and those writing supporting letters should be aware that content from the nomination package may be publicly quoted and/or shared when announcing the award winner.
