SSHRC Canada Graduate Research Scholarship—Doctoral (CGRSD)

Overview

The Canada Graduate Research Scholarship—Doctoral program recognizes and supports the next generation of outstanding innovators, knowledge workers, creative thinkers and researchers. By providing support for a high-quality research training experience to awardees, the program strives to foster impacts within and beyond the research environment.

  • $40,000 per year for 3 years

How to Apply

Students are encouraged to review the Tri-Council and OGS Guide (.pdf) prior to submitting their application.

Step 1: Complete the application on the SSHRC Portal following SSHRC applicant instructions by October 8, 2026, 11:59 P.M. ET.
Step 2: Applicants must also submit a Cover Sheet to enable staff to match Tri-Council applications with institutional records. There are two different Cover Sheets depending on your status at York University.

Step 2a: For current York University graduate students, complete the 2027 SSHRC Canada Graduate Research Scholarship – Doctoral – Fall Cover Sheet on the York University Financial Aid, Awards and Scholarships (FAAS) system by October 8, 2026, 11:59 P.M. ET, or:
Step 2b: For students that are not current York University graduate students (ie: incoming graduate students, current undergraduate students), complete the 2027-2028 Tricouncil (CGRS D and CGRS M) Cover Sheet by October 8, 2026, 11:59 P.M. ET.

Transcripts

Official transcripts with your complete academic record (undergraduate and graduate studies, completed and ongoing) are required. Accordingly, applicants are responsible for collecting, uploading, and confirming legibility of previous and current (including the current Fall term, even if no grades are available) official transcripts and upload them directly onto the application portal.

To access your York University official transcript, please visit the Order Transcripts Online page and request for your official transcript to be emailed to you. Please note that grade reports will not be accepted.

The Triagency will only accept unofficial transcripts if official transcripts cannot be obtained.

Results 

Institutional results will be available by the end of November 2026. Announcement of final results will be made available by the end of April 2027 via SSHRC Extranet for Applicants.
